We’ve finally got usable chili peppers, and we’ve picked two small bowls worth already for use in pickles and some salsa. As it turns out, hot peppers from the garden are much hotter than what we’ve been buying in the store, and the oils linger on your hands for much longer.

Actually, a hard rain did fall. Last night, for about twenty minutes tops. The dinky little powerful storm managed to fell a pepper plant, shown above, and …

One end of the garden is full of gloom and doom, as the cucumber plants slowly but steadily wither away. Blueberries and Cucumbers and 1 little Cherry Tomato.

A whole bunch of basil.

With the blueberries, I made these very tasty Blueberry bars, with a recipe I found on Farmgirl Fare. I topped it off with a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream while it was still warm. Super yummy.

Payoff

Last night’s harvest: 8 pickling cukes, parsley, dill. Not pictured: 1 sugar snap pea.

Some more of the squash that’s growing. This guy’s about 4 or 5 inches long.

The margin of difference between the size of Squashimus Prime and all the other squash plants continues to widen.

Last night was our largest harvest yet: 9 pickling cucumbers, 2 straighneck yellow squash (although one of them looks like a crookneck …), 6 sugar snap peas, 1 green bell pepper, 2 sweet 100 cherry tomatoes.

Harvest: 5 pickling cucumbers, 1 Roma Tomato, 5 peas, and a bunch of Dill. I didn’t mean to harvest the Roma, but I just barely touched it and it fell off in my hand. I have it in a paper bag now, hoping to ripen it just a touch more.
