Back home in Hadley this past weekend, this was the view from the front lawn at my folks’ place, getting near sunset.

Tiny Showcase has three prints available that I’d like to own, I think.

If you don’t know Tiny Showcase, they offer a new print each week for only $20.00, a very fine price to pay for original art for your home. Of course, I type this, even though I myself have yet to make a purchase.

In their words:

Each week we pick a new piece of tiny artwork and turn the work into a limited-run print production. Each run is printed on archival Hahnemühle German Printmaking Paper. The archival ink is specially treated and sprayed, giving it an archival lifespan of over 60 years. You sort of need to see the end product to get the full effect, but each piece really is a beautiful specimen.

They also donate a portion of the sales to charity, letting each artist choose the one they’d like the money to go to. Pretty cool.

Here’s this week’s offering: “To My Faithful,” by Margi Grill. 6″ x 4.55″, 48 of them left. Purchase this print here.

Beach Grass, originally uploaded by joshuat1974.

Nauset Lighthouse in Eastham, MA on Cape Cod held an Open House and lighthouse tour last weekend, which we attended.

Naturally, I thought this might be a good opportunity to snap a few photos of the inner workings of a lighthouse and the view from the top. Instead, I wound up playing with the macro setting on my camera and taking close up photos of various plants and vegetation around the base of Nauset Light.

This beach grass photo is from that batch. You can check out my flickr gallery to see two more.

Belmont Farmer’s Market, originally uploaded by joshuat1974.

Wandering around today, I happened across signs for the Belmont Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

One of the great finds was a small fresh mozzarella company based in Somerville, MA called Fiore Di Nonno. I didn’t think to take a photo, but there wasn’t much to photograph at their booth anyway.

Their website says:

Made fresh daily in Somerville, MA, Fiore di Nonno’s small batch mozzarella tastes like a refreshing glass of milk. This delicacy is soft in texture and its flavor is milky sweet, highlighted by a hint of salt.

The sample I had was perhaps slightly more dense than I’m prone to (which is probably the result of the fact that the mozz I’ve made has never lasted long enough to be chilled), and had just a touch too much salt, but was wonderful regardless. I was thinking on the way home that the salt might be fine when you use it in the context of a recipe, like on a pizza, since often the flavor of mozzarella gets lost or covered up since it’s such a mild cheese to begin with, particularly handmade and fresh mozz.

Belmont Sunflower

Belmont Sunflower, originally uploaded by joshuat1974.

I spent most of last week driving back and forth on the Mass Pike with boxes of my stuff. Finally, on Friday, I managed to find a little time to actually walk around Belmont and explore.

I went into the old movie theater and talked them into letting me look around. I went into Dick’s Antiques and had a nice chat (and saw some amazing old stuff).

On Thayer Street, I found this sunflower.
